About Ellen Roseman

Ellen is a personal finance and consumer issues columnist with the Toronto Star’s business section. Her columns appear Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.

She was the Star’s business editor for two years and also worked at the Globe and Mail as a columnist on consumer affairs, personal finance and mutual funds, and as associate managing editor of the Report on Business.

Her books, Money 101: Every Canadian’s Guide to Personal Finance, and Money 201: More Personal Finance Advice for Every Canadian, are based on a series she did in the Sunday Star. Her Sunday column, now called Money 911, is an easy-to-understand introduction to personal finance for those of us who are short of time and money.

She’s the author of four other books, Ellen Roseman’s Money Guide for Modern Families, Canadian Parent’s Sourcebook, Canadian Consumers’ Survival Book and Consumer, Beware!

In her community activities, she teaches courses in investing and personal finance at the University of Toronto’s and Ryerson’s continuing studies departments and does regular business commentaries for CBC radio.

Ellen is the first public representative on the board of the Financial Planning Standards Council. She also sits on the board of FAIR (Canadian Foundation for Advancement of Investor Rights), Community Legal Education Ontario (CLEO) and Starnews Credit Union.
